Has anyone else had any problems upgrading any older phones to the new 4.4 Kit Kat update from 4.3 Jellybean? I upgraded my old Sony Xperia Z about two weeks ago when I got sent the update and ever since the battery has been draining faster than it's been able to charge, even plugged into the mains. I've tried all the temporary "solutions" to sort it until a new update is released in JULY:mad: but it's still not working. It has gotten to the point now where the phone won't turn on even when plugged in and I won't be able to do the update even when they do release it because I can't get the Xpera Z to over 50% battery life. So basically the new update has rendered my spare phone useless and looks like I will have to pay for it to get sent away to SONY for repair.

Apparently the problem is down to google play services or something like that, but you can't uninstall it completely from the xperia otherwise it would be ok.

If anyone gets an update to the new Kit Kat 4.4 and hasn't done it yet...DON'T. There's pages and pages of complaints about the new update and i'm unsure what other phones or devices are getting effected with this crap.

Thanks Android...tossers.

Kit Kat has a bug which drains battery life.....some apps seem to bypass the point of switching off and continue to run...according to Orange who updated my phone after a repair and life of battery is bloody miserable

My Wife has a Nexus 7 and there was a recent update to 4.4.1 and the heavy battery drain issue seems to have gone away.

Anthony.

I'm just glad it's not my main phone but it's the Mrs that uses the Xperia Z. I'll have to see what I can sort out because the update to fix the bug isn't expected till july. I had the Z on charge all night and I turned it on this morning to find it's only 3%. Turned every app off that I can now so hopefully it does a bit better today.

Charging fine now, 78% since my last post. I managed to completely disable google play services which Sony thinks is the cause of the battery drain issue. Just have to keep doing this every time it starts itself till I get a new update for google play or new OS.

I had a similar issue on the s3,I restored to factory setup and seems to be working fine now.
