Good evening, my name is Nico from and I'm looking to purchase my first camera with the view of developing some photography skills. My budget will be around £600 to start with to ensure it is something I can improve upon. Could anybody recommend a certain camera or place to buy? I have noticed the grey market websites do offer great value. I am also open to buying used I have seem what appear to be great deals on the Facebook market place or would that be too risky even if I was to pay through PayPal.
After some extensive research the camera that I'm swaying towards if I went down the used market route would be Fujifilm XT-30 would that be a wise move for general, travel landscape and family photography?
Sorry if this was a long introduction. Thank you for reading

Hi Nico, And welcome aboard TP. "Enjoy"

Welcome Nico.
In general until you really know how to distinguish a good deal from bad, etc, I would go to sites such as MPB and Wex or a local camera shop if you have one, to buy used, because in some cases at least you will get a limited warranty and if something is wrong, you have somewhere to go with it. FB doesn't generally have bargains and you have no buyer protection.
I don't know the Fuji cameras myself but I get the impression on here that they are very good. They are certainly small and light for travel and family stuff, and would probably do well for you in other genre's until your skills went beyond the camera's ability - but that is probably a long way down the track. Many of us make the mistake of spending a lot on a pro-looking camera outfit in the mistaken belief that it will make us good photographers, which is just not true. I think you are approaching this wisely and I wish you much enjoyment in photography.

Welcome to the forum, have fun ;)

Thank you for your very informative response I appreciate the advice. I will be sure to check out the websites mentioned as you do raise a great point with regards to warranty's after purchase etc

Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming and giving me buying advice I will be sure to check out the websites mentioned prior to my first purchase :)

Hello Nico.
+1 for MPB and Wex, you can choose a second hand that is like new to one which is well used (and cheaper), depending on your preference. You can if you wish draw on the power of the previous owner, and it's better for the planet too .

Thank you CavGez it seems like MPB or Wex are the way to go to get the best bang for my much

I'm new here myself.

After returning to photography after a break (during which it all went digital) I bought a Panasonic G90 body new, and then a GX9 (which is a more compact camera with fundamentally the same sensor and electronics) secondhand from MPB.

The GX9 was only £300 and I've had no problems with it. All of my lenses are used, bar two, and came from various online outlets (Camera Jungle, which is owned by Jessop , MPB ad Wes, mostly). The way these things are built now you can save a lot and it's in the interest of reputable vendors to provide a good deal.

I had one lens delivered to a place I was working all day, and MPB had to do a security check before dispatch. I'd paid for one-day delivery and, despite the fact that I didn't mind the security (it might have been a scam, after all) they refunded the delivery change and I got that for free,. It was a nice touch.

Still... I bought the G90 new and would again just for the reassurance. You pays your money and you takes your choice :)

Also, bear in mind that unbranded Lenshoods, caps, cables and suchlike are typically just as good and a lot cheaper. For some reason, manufacturers charge ridiculous amounts for branded accessories.
