Hi folks, hope all is well.

Looking to purchase a new action camera (fishing, mountain biking, road cycling, camping and such).

Always used Go Pros - hero 8 onwards.

Hearing mixed reviews on the GP13 and most Ytube videos seem to suggest the DJI Action 5 and Insta Ace Pro 2 as the better options (although most are probably sponsored).

Just wondering what people on here are using and how they are getting on with it.

I am tempted to stick with GP and get the Hero 13 as I know GP and can have the Premium sub for a year for free. Also, some reviews of the DJI and Insta options discuss being forced to use mobile apps that are not on the play store and having to agree to some intrusive T&Cs to use the products.

I am not a pro and its for family stuff, I don't even edit the footage.

Cheers.
Adam

Ive been using a DJI Action 4 for a couple of Months and so far ive had no issues. Great image quality, excellent stabilization. I changed from a GoPro Hero 11.

I had the Action Pro 5 and it was brilliant, image quality, battery capacity, no over-heating, if I decided to use an action camera again it would be straight back to the Action Pro 5. :)

How do you find it Vs the 11?

The main differences for me have been the better low light capabilities, the option to connect a DJI mic directly to it via bluetooth and (in my opinion) the more true to life colours and quick magnetic mounting.

What file format does it save to?

Go Pro 11 that I have is MP4

I got the adventure combo, which comes with 3 batteries and charging case, a 1.5m extension rod, a protective cage (which I no longer use as I have a smallrig cage for it) and various little mounting accessories.

That's what I'm looking at £280 new from Amazon.

Apple user.

Used all them over the years. Prefer Insta to the rest, have 360, Go3 and Ace. Ace is basically the same as GP. Not really notcied much difference

I've used the DJI action camera for a while and currently on the Action 4 which I use for a mix of swimming and mountain biking which I find work well. I particularly like the magnetic mount system although I think GoPro have it as well. Originally I just bought a single extra battery with the Action 3 but for the 4 I bought the pack with the extra battery charger which I find really handy even for a single battery. I keep a battery charged up in the case so when I want to use the Action 4 instead of needing to remember to connect up the camera to charge, I just pop the battery out of the case and swap over the battery in the camera and I'm good to go. Even if I need additional batteries I can then connect a portable charger to the battery case and get the spare batteries ready when needed.

I've been using the DJI Action 4 for a couple of years. Initially one, then another this year to run as a pair (mostly onstage footage of musical projects). I'm really happy with the output, and only usually shoot in the 'Normal' profile, as I find it more than good enough for my purposes, even in low light. I run each with a DJI Mic 2, as while the on camera sound is excellent, near loud stage monitors I was getting clipping as there's no way of reducing the input gain without the external mics.

You do have to download the app from their website in order to register and use it, and there's been a lot said about that, implications of dodgyness, etc... but do I think they're doing anything more insidious with my data than Google, Facebook, etc?... probably not. The app is pretty good too, for quick review, rush editing and such.

I'd say given that they're now about £100 quid less than I paid for my first one, they're a bit of a bargain.

Just ordered the DJI Action 5 Pro adventure bundle from Amazon.

Thanks for the comments.

Will be interesting to see how it compares to my GoPro Hero 11
That's a great deal!

I have a GoPro Hero12. Really like it, but microphone connectivity without buying the media mod is a minus for me.

I’ve heard lots about overheating but never had a problem.

Picture quality and stabilisation is really good, audio is good too, as much as an internal mic can do.
