Network Rail trying to control photography at stations

Seems to only refer to images for commercial gain ... their property, their rights?

Sadly if it is their private land they can inforce such a stance. Makes you wonder why only now though!
Equally i am not sure how they control the selling of such images though outwith stock sites.

Another lot wanting something for nothing, and before somebody comes along and said private land, yes it is but they had a fair amount of public money over the years (n)

As i have said wasn't at one time, and they have had their fair share of public money over the years

Possibly, but it's theirs now and they can decide whether or not others make commercial gain from their property.
If for example they licence images for use it's reasonable to expect them to protect their interest, after all they are not banning photography (which they could) merely commercial photography. :)

They have always been 'private land', even as a nationalised company when British Rail.

Of course NR only control the largest and most prestigious stations on the network, although I can see that other train operating companies like Virgin will no doubt have a go with their stations if there is money in it. (and Virgin/Stagecoach have fingers in pies for the East Coast, West Coast and East MidlandTrains, South West Trains, etc etc). Quite surprised at the outburst from Alamy though; have none of their photographers ever been stopped and questioned before? Saw a well known journalist pulled up at Birmingham New Street a few years ago and thrown off the station for it, because he argued. He wrote a few miles of column inches but he was wrong and it made no difference anyway.

**STOP PRESS**

Network Rail have today (4th Feb 2016) backed down and will allow pictures for editorial and press use as well as amateur usage.

What gets me with this is that they were trying to enforce rights on photos taken 18 years before the company was even formed. There are guys on the EPUK list that took photos back in the 70s who have been subject to takedown orders.

Network Rail should be putting all their efforts into getting the trains runing on time, never mind playing at the photography police.
