NEF LR5 workaround.

Hi all,

I have a D5500 and annoyingly I cant import RAW files into LR5. I don't want to pay monthly for the product and if push did come to shove, I would rather buy a cop of LR6 outright.

However, is there a workaround for me? Perhaps converting NEF into DNG prior to loading into LR? Ive read this doesn't always seem to work though.

That is the work around, the DNG converter is a free download from Adobe. An upgrade to 6.xx would be good...

Yeah an upgrade would be cool, but so would a body upgrade. I'm sure a D7xxx wouldn't be unwelcome.
I will have to suffice for now, I thought that would be the workaround. I remember reading about (TIF?) files being converted a while ago, but I'm sure that was before the DNG converter was around.

You were to upgrade to LR6 on the adobe website for about £60.

You should be able to convert the NEFs to DNGs and import them into LR5. That’s likely to be the only free option at present.

It still exists but is well hidden. At https://www.adobe.com/uk/products it's not listed but a search for Lightroom 6 finds the purchase link (full or upgrade). If anyone needs the full version, the download is a bit cheaper from Amazon.
