Hi Snappers

Just getting in to using Flashes and a while ago I purchased a Neewer 685C, it's a nice flash and all the work that I have done with it has been off camera, but the flash has been close to me. This model of flash goes in to standby after one minute! Neewer have confirmed that this is correct and it cannot be changed. Also that all of their flashes in the range go in to standby. Going in to stand by is OK but not after one minute, now I am working with the flash a little bit further away by the time I get back, line up the shot and press the shutter it's gone in to standby!

My idea now is just to use this as a slave, it does not go in to standby for 30 minutes in slave mode ;-), and get another flash. I cannot afford to go Canon and the Neewer is fine apart from this. I am looking at the other Neewer's NW985 or NW565 but really need to know about the standby time on these. Neewer take forever to respond to the questions.

Or if you can tell me another great flash for off camera work, that also does not go in to standby so quick, it would be great.

Thank you all for sharing you experience.

Stu.

What are you using to fire the flash?

Smart triggers will wake the flash up with a half press of the shutter, and they'll enable remote power control too, alleviating the walking to and fro.

Hi Phil V

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

I'm using the Neewer FC16's, they work OK but if there are better ones that will bring the flash out of standby this would be perfect. No need to change the Flash :-). These one definitely do not bring it out of standby.

Do you have any recommendations for smart triggers? Maybe that would also control the power, not sue if this would work on the this flash.

Thanks again.

Stu.

No interwebs ATM. I'll have a look at your flash in the morning.

It seems that YN622's do work with the Neewer flashes, I'd have a go, and if the trigger doesn't work for you at least you've bought into a system that'll do what you want and you can replace your flashgun for not a lot of money.

Hi Phil, Pete

Thanks for the feedback and testing, looks like I'm going to try the 622s then.

Fingers crossed and cheers

Stu

Hey Phil, Pete and anyone else with the same issues.

I can now confirm that the YN622C triggers work a treat! They bring my Neewer NW685C Flash back out of standby, control the Flash settings from the Canon 700Ds menu and also works perfectly in Manual.

One happy chap right here!

Thanks again.

Stu.
