Hi People,

Need some advice on where i could go to get high up to take a night picture of London, the higher the better but not the London eye.

any suggestions?

Have you checked out the 'High Stuff' forum in:

http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/

OK, some of the guys there are mental and I'm not sure about the legality of trespassing like they do but some of the photos are very good considering they climbed a couple of hundred feet up a crane before they took them!

Worth a browse for those that might not have seen the forum.

depending on what your trying to achieve.....

in croydon just of gravel hill towards west wickham theres a fancy restaurant with a hell of a view of london (from a distance)- many go there with their wide angles and go away with wonderful images- im planning to go there soon.....

also around the blackheath area (blackheath hill) or some of the roads off there you get wonderful views of london (from a distance)

you got the obvious london eye, or the new skylift thing near the dome...

alternatively if you hate heights like i do take pictures from below pointing up, rather than above pointing down lol

What restaurant is that? I don't live far from Croydon/West Wickham.

you could chance your arm and see if there is any hi rise flats near where you are looking to take a photo or to and if theres a concierge and talk very nice to him or a small bung may get you up to the top of the said flat

dont the Shard charge 10 or 15 quid to go up to a viewing platform?

I know a guy on Dean St that can sell you.... Oh.. hang on... this thread is not what I thought :)

Greenwich Park, by the observatory, if you don't mind Canary Wharf taking centre stage.

Parliament Hill and Primrose Hill you can do pretty well from for the City and Westminster.

In town, you might try the roof terrace at One New Change, which has free public access, though I'm not sure how well they react to tripods.

The Shard's viewing gallery won't open till February and I think you'll be behind glass.

What's your budget? If it's for a client, my thought thought would be a helicopter.

Or licence someone else's that has already been taken using that method.

I mean, its hardly like you are going to find an original shot and by the sounds of things its not like its for any place in particular :D

You can get to the top of st pauls cathedral, where there is 360 degree viewing platform. Amazing views.

I'm fairly sure that it's not open after dark though, unless by special arrangement!

St Paul's said:
St Paul's Cathedral is open for sightseeing from Monday to Saturday between 8.30am - 4pm.

Last tickets are sold at 4pm and the cathedral closes for sightseeing at 4.30pm.

Sunset on December 21st is at 15:53, but civil twilight isn't until 16:34.

You might catch some 'golden hour', but you'd be lucky to have any more than a few minutes up top in darkness before they shoo you out.

Paramount's a bar at the top of Centre Point, great views but all inside. Don't know if there's any external access there.

Sushi Samba at the top of Heron Tower :D

I will be going next week, just for the view of course, nothing to do with the bar being there :D ;)

Maybe take the cheapest evening flight out of London city airport :-)
