im still new to photography and learning everyday. im using a canon 400d with canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens.

ive noticed on some pics that the sky hasnt really got much detail/not right colour etc, from what ive been reading i think i should be using a circular polarising filter ??

is this right? if so what make of filters are reccomended?

seen this one:

any help would be much appreciated!! :D

Think about a Cokin-P (or copy) filter holder, which you can use with a polariser plus ND grad and other filters. The extra bulk may put you off so, at a pinch, you could use the ND grad with no holder, hand-held against a screw-in polariser.

Polarisers are perhaps falling from favour these days, and I would suggest you try ND grads first.

thanks for the advice, ill have another search

Both of these brands are pretty expensive but, can be had a lot less expensivelyfrom this Hong Kong distributor:

http://hvstar.net/

They are reliable and you usually get the item within a week or two.

ermmm, the link takes you to a Chinese porn site

In deed it does.....it appears to have exploded the myth that they'd go wuba, wuba, wuba if they slide down a banister.

I just spent an hour looking at it... thought it was a photography site... some great pics.

can the link be removed as not safe for work and if i didn't read the next post i would of been in a lot of trouble

If you are after ND Grad filters which will allow you to balance exposure for the sky and ground more effectively, look at Hi_Tech on a COKIN holder.

http://www.teamworkphoto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=10288 3 for the price of 1 - Bargain.

Polarisers are not falling from favour. What perhaps is, is the typical Blue sky and white puffy clouds image, but the polariser is still very much used.

thanks for all the help  well, except for the porn link, that was a bit more then i needed
