Hi everyone. My father's got an older film SLR he's giving to me (yay!). Over the phone, he said it's a Nikon EM, and it's fitted with a Nikon 52mm 1.8 and a Vivitar 70-210 3.5 macro.

Here's the thing: I'm getting either a D90 Nikon or the D60 anyhow, and I'm wondering what I can salvage from this unit to use with with own photography. Pretty sure the 52mm 1.8 Nikon will work fine on both the D90 or D60, but not so sure about the Vivitar. Anyone care to provide feedback and input? The EM body itself I'll probably just end up selling somewhere. Maybe buy a filter instead.

Thanks!

you can buy adaper rings for old lenses, but they only work manually afaik.

An adapter for the 52mm or the vivitar - or both? I thought the 52mm would work great with the d60 or d90? I don't mind losing autofocus. I grew up without it anyhow.

not 100% sure as i dont have anything nikon, but i know that if its a different attachment were you join the lens to the body, you can get adapters. and that would be the sam efor both obviosuly but with out seeing the ends of the lenses is diffiuclt to say.

The EM accepts all lenses with the Nikon F bayonet mount, so i think that cover most made since about 1959/60.
The lenses should therefore fit the D90 or D60, the facilities you get would be based on the lens compatibility to the camera if that makes sense. Around the time of the camera they were producing the Al type lens supporting automatic indexing and the EM will support that as well.
Also Nikon produced a range of lenses called E series specifically for this camera, some of the E series lenses have quite a cult following.

as long as you can physically attach them to the body, i can;t see why the wouldnt work all be it manually.
