Okay so www.everyrobot.com has asked me for some help.

They have these 'alive' animal products, aimed at children. They have things such as lions, tigers, seals, hukies and....koalas

The problem is the Lion is outselling the Koala by over 30 to 1, so they've got a bunch of stock just sitting there at the mo!

They reckoned it might be something to do with the koala looking particularly grumpy and ugly in it's pic:

So, they came to me...I've tried my best but was just wondering if anyone out there had any ideas?

I've really concentrated on getting the EYES to be a little more...prevelant. But I was hoping to do something that moves away from a 'stock' product shot, as it were.

Here's my effort:

Any help is appreciated, cheers guys and gals! :)

p.s I know the koala looks a little different colour in the second one, just a result of my pp

Maybe get some leaves and tree branches in there, it holding a eucalyptus branch or something?

tricky one as their site design does need all white seamless really, only so much you can do...

but is says the koala is a bestseller :D

Your second pic is much better, agree with Dave though one in a bit more of a location could help

I think the 2nd one has an evil glint in its eye... For me your first one looks more 'cuddly'.

Can you post a pic of the Lion and we can see the competition to see if there is much difference in looks / style :)

trouble is koalas don't do much
you could leave the batteries out and still have a lifelike koala robot!

as others have said - whatever you do it must look like what they're selling
but I agree their pic does look pretty fed up!

good luck with this!

Cheers for the help guys, I've thought about getting some on location stuff (i.e taking it to some trees or whatever) but weather at the moment is just a no-no.

Maybe get some leaves and tree branches in there, it holding a eucalyptus branch or something?

I might source some fake plants from homebase or something and see what I can do then.

Make sure you get the basics right first though. However creative the shot is, it needs to show the correct colour, and represent the product as it is.

I will do, don't worry, I just spent more in PP on the first image than the second one, making it a tad more accurate.

The one you are taking a photo off is not the same as the original... your one is a better looking teddy IMO.

I think your first picture works quite well. Check the eyes are really that blue though.

The eyes are indeed very blue, but you ARE right, the toy is most certainly different to the one advertised...which is odd, because the suppliers haven't changed the design since they did their original stock pics (the ones on the site at the mo)

Again cheers guys, any more help would be appreciated :) for the mo here's an expansion on the 'on location' idea....
