I do watch repair so I like to get about 1 to 2 inches away from a watch movement. I have had good luck with a Canon Power shot I have but it eats batteries in no time and if I let it sit and then turn it on I get a notice to change batteries. I also have a Canon T6i and a Canon D450, but none of the lens I have get a good close up. I have 40mm, 35mm, 50mm prime lens, and 3 or 4 bigger zoom lens and none get even close. Can anyone recommend a point and shoot or compact camera used or new that's not to expensive that can get clean, detailed shots at about one to 2 inches? Don't care if they are terrible for pets, people or scenery I need close and detailed of my watch movements.

Tbh I’d get an old macro lens for your Canon T6i, you can pick up an old used Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro for around £150 with 12 months warranty and that will give you full 1:1 magnification. Working distance is around 30cm though, but it’s the magnification that counts. Image quality will be much better than a compact camera (if used right).

I've just replied to the OP's identical post in 'Talk Photography' and recommend extension tubes to go with his 50mm.

Yes, I would suggest the same. But DON'T by Canon extension tubes - they cost a fortune and there are only two sizes available. Extension tubes don't contain any glass, so all you need be concerned with is that they fit mechanically and maintain the electrical connections. Something like Kenko set of 3 for Canon work perfectly for less than the price of either one of the Canon tubes. Remember, to get to a repro ratio of 1:1 (which is what I guess you will need for a watch movement), you need the same amount of extension as the focal length of the lens (when focussed at infinity). So for a 50mm lens, you will need 50mm of extension. A typical set of three tubes are 12, 20 and 35mm, so will give you slightly more than that if you use all 3 together.
