thinking about getting this YONGNUO YN-14EX Macro Ring LITE Flash Light for Canon EOS DSLR to run with my 7d and sigma 105 for close up of bugs any advice or input would be welcome

can't see any reason why not. It costs a fraction of what Canon does, and their regular flashes are fairly decent. It may be plasticky and easier to break, so be fairly gentle.
