My uni have given our class a friendly competition with the theme "After Dark"...

NOW, this is quite a broad and vague theme but it leaves alot to do. Im going to sicilly to see my family on the 18th and im there for 6 days and seeing as its still warm i probably will have more chance to have a good shoot out there as opposed to the lovely weather were experiencing here...

Can anyone help as to what i could come up with, because im best in class and i dont want to loose :D

p.s: im not big headed:lol:

What about a horses head on a pillow? :D

I would imagine that Sicily will have wonderful dark skies... how about a night sky shot (stacked for greater details and noise reduction) or star trails ? You'll need a tripod anyway and that's all you need for either of those. I'm not biased in anyway of course :D.

Oh you lucky beggar! I went to Sicily on honeymoon and really liked it - Taormina and Etna of course, but a village called Brucoli really grabbed us...

Anyway, I digress. Night skies for me, as JGS001 says. Or Etna can look very broody (or worse of course) and can be seen from many angles. Some of the towns have ruins that are lit up nicely. There's a couple of industrial ports that I bet would look fantastic with the right treatment... lots of choices. And all my honeymoon pics are on a computer that died, so back it all up!

Thanks for the replies guys. Ive pritty much got free reign i was born in reggio calabria and ive lived there most of my life. I was thinking the main gate in the taormina centre or a star trail with a good landscape of messina. Either way if i got out a couple of hours every afternoon i should be set with some good pictures

Sorry, bad day read that as Scilly.
Easy mistake to make. I went to Scilly a while ago and some locals were telling me they can't count the times they've tried to order something and been told "sorry, we don't deliver to the Mediterranean"

As for the theme... Why not try some light-painting? It's something that I've always loved the look of but never tried. There's the light-trail approach:http://www.flickr.com/photos/czd72/1297629012/
or illuminating things with coloured flashes or torches: http://www.flickr.com/photos/light_painter/2062351214/in/set-72157600532756862/

Same reason that cars in New Mexico have to have "New Mexico, USA" on their licence plates, it's the only state that has to do this :bonk:
