Im going to buy the Canon 350D for plane spotting but i because i am a beginner in photography i need some advice on what lens to buy. Im looking to buy the average lens, nothing too big, nothing too small. The thing i get confused with is all the different types of lenses lol. Like AF, DC, APO, DG etc etc. I want a lens with zoom and gets those crisp photos. i need something around 300mm. and does anyone know any websites for beginners like me?

Sorry to sound dumb! :D

Iv always like this site http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=7&mforum=lowflynet
as for the lens, i see you are a beginner and a good lens like the 100-400mL is going to cost you loads on something you might change your mind about after a few early mornings on a hill in scotland or wales, rent one or borrow if you can, then if you really want to get into it buy either the above lens or better still one of the long primes.
im sure there is someone on here thats better qulified than myself that will give more information than i can.

ps i know i cant spell
pss i think this should be moved to the lens forum
psss welcome

There are never dumb questions Jamie, Just dumb answers..;)

Looking at the 300mm range there is the 300mm f.4 prime or you could try the 400mm f/5.6 at a similar price.

As Madpup mentioned the 100-400mm is a good lens with the zoom that makes it more vertasile but again its a lot more money.

It all depends on how much you care to spend.

BTW: Welcome to the forums.:)

It'll help if you tell us what your budget is :)

Or tell them, anyway. I probably won't be able to help cos :amstupid:

Budget would help narrow down your choices, eg is it £150 or £1500? Although if it's £1500 I don't think you would be buying a 350D (competent as it is)

I know that we reckon if your on a budget, then buy a cheaper body and the best lens, but your 350D and 300mm is taking that to the extreme!!;)

Hows the popup flash on that setup buster??

£269 for a warrantied 350D at mpbphotographic and also a 70-200mm F4 L for £279

For not much more on the 350D front you can sometimes squeeze a 400D from warehouseexpress.com bargain basement (customer returns!!) plus still get cashback on it.
