Looking for a cheap document printer and scanner that doesnt care what make of cartridges i use, i never print photos so print quality doesn't matter, i just want to use cheap ebay cartridges like i allways have to hard copy email reciepts ect or scan in hard copies for emailing.

Thanks

Cheap inkjets always block nozzles if use infrequently so a cheap mono laser printer (Amazon) is probably going to suit your requirements best. Laser printers are so much more reliable than inkjets and the cartridge it comes with will probably last you years based on the print runs you do.

I use an Epson all in one that is quite happy with any (chipped) ink cartridges I put in it. Same as my previous Epson that I only binned because I wanted WiFi printing.

I usually buy the non-gen cartridges on Amazon (usually work out cheaper and come quicker than eBay as I’ve got Prime). Though I did use to use this guy on eBay.

This is the new printer I have, iirc

I use an Epson XP-245 ... it works well, is wireless and basically does everything I need for printing also accepts my Inkredibles 3rd-party cartridges. :),

I bought a HP ENVY 5546 for about £70 I think, and signed up to HP's ink replacement deal too, which is about £2 pcm

The printer is great, and is a scanner too, and HP just keeps track of my use and sends me new inks when needed

I too only print documents and that low monthly figure gets me 50 sheets I think, making it FAR cheaper than my old laser was

+1 for a laser printer I’ve used Samsung in the past but they’ve been bought by HP I think so I now have Brother. Compatible cartridges are very cheap. Though I have a scanner I usually use the phone/iPad for document copies these days.

Thanks, i managed to get my old Epson working by reloading the drivers, before that it was crashing when i tried to set it up for ink replacements.

Remember, check your warranty regarding 3rd party carts. It's not unheard of for some manufacturers to reject claims if they discover non genuine carts have been used.

If the price of carts is the issue here I'd also suggest the HP cartridge replacement scheme for a monthly cost. Not sure if anyone else offers the same.

As for which manufacturer, I find personally HP (lasers) easier to service. Brother (lasers) always feel a bit cheaper build, Epson inkjets (that I've used) are thirsty.

+1 for this. Samsung SCX3405 user here with one cart replaced in 5 years. It was cheap as chips from PC world and although an OEM toner cart was half the price of the printer, with me getting so much life out of it I don't mind.

Yeah keep it going as long as possible because if my experiences lately are anything to go by, you'll need a few bottles of gaviscon as well.
I've had four faulty printers up to now, grinding ADF unit, faulty scanner head, grinding drive unit and rattling body parts and finally blocked heads and very poor print quality.
Thank goodness I didnt throw out my 8 year old Canon ip4200, they dont make them as good as they use too.
And when it comes to reviews forget it, their useless as well.

Yep, that's why I have - though I use StinkyInk.

My Pixma was great until it gave the dreaded "End of life" error message. So I bought an Epson instead. I bet this one annoys me somehow and I buy a Canon next....

A damaged box one on Amazon cost me a shade under 28 quid so I'm not too bothered if I void the warranty.

cheap mono laser for me defo.
much happier sat doing nothing for weeks and months on end
as you say documents as well that will produce much better quality

We have an HP125n which did cost about £100 3 years ago has full scanning and copying.
Full original cartridges are £50 for about 1500 prints which is 3.5p per print and that's full genuine carts
I never use aftermarket
