Hi All,
I have a family wedding come and I of course have to look the part. Thing is, I haven't been to a wedding in well over 5 years (I suppose that hardly matters) and I don't really own a suit. I have no real intention of buying something expensive and then have it sitting in my wardrobe till whenever. Having said that, I still wish to make some kind of effort and I quite like the waist coat look. I remember seeing a photo a few years and I liked the suit (Moreso the look, image link below)). Turns out it was from Strictly Come Dancing. All I actually want is that type of velvet waist coat (Ideally silver with some kind of floral pattern). I suppose a tie I can find myself. I must also stress, I don't wish to spend a pretty penny on this.

Maybe someone could offer some advice here but while I like the waist coat type look, I have quite a skinny physique and I'm aware this type of looks better when the overall suit looks taut. Apart from buying a relatively small size, could anyone offer a way on how I may pull this off ? I suppose I could wear some kind of under garment but I worry I may get hot under neath it.

P.S. When I say I want whats in the link, I'm referring to the waistcoat not the woman, although if you can find her I'd appreciate that as well ! ;)

See if you have a "Slaters" near you, they have hundreds of suits, at reasonable prices ... they have three piece suits from around £100 ... Slaters

My daughter wanted matching suits for her wedding, rather than hire them she bought them, £99 each for a three piece suit ... quality not bad, made in China.

If you meet the average physique that suit sizes are based on, then an off-the-peg suit should be fine with no alterations required. If you require alterations, then moss bros and slaters will get you something. Moss have a 50% sale currently - might be worth having a look. I got my 3-piece suit from there and alterations were free.

TK Maxx or local charity shops (yes, you can get some really decent suits in charity shops, believe it or not) for 2 cheap options. the big supermarkets also do formal wear at very reasonable prices, especially if you only want to wear once or twice.

I'm guessing the op is a man and if so I'd suggest leaving the decision to a woman, either the Mrs or some responsible female family member or friend :D

I used to wear suits at work and still have a wardrobe full but at the last wedding I attended (my own) I was told by the then future Mrs Woof Woof that suits are so out and that I should just wear trousers and a shirt. I let her pick everything and there was no criticism or argument on the day :D

NEXT can be a good place for decent enough quality at reasonable prices.

charity shop !

Undertakers Biffa bin :-)

Sadly I don't have a woman in my life and my female members seem more occupied with their own clothes not to mention I've never really asked for advice when it's come to clothing.
I've had a quick look at NEXT, while they have a nice range, they seem to be missing the velvet like waistcoat I'm after. Im currently browsing through MOSS Bros. The only aspect of suit im not fussed with getting are the shoes.

if you have a large Asda or Tesco near you that have the clothing bits in them you will find lots of suits available 2 or 3 piece for around the £50 to £70 area

@Professor1991

You mention keeping budget under control............as noted many budget (2 piece) suits available but a velvet waistcoat! For that part maybe try theatrical costume hire? I did a Google and found, for example, this site https://www.admiralcostumes.co.uk/theatrical/accessories/waistcoats/

Hope you can find what you want within your budget and especially have a great time at the family wedding :)

Alterations for free too.

If you’re really struck on a velvet waistcoat, look at ASOS, and once you’ve picked out a waistcoat, you can pick a suit to complement it.

The only problem with Asos is being prepared to over order and send stuff back (all my kids & partners do this regularly)

I appreciate all the help folks. i generally tend to buy my clothes online and I don't think I've ever sent anything back. I know my sizes so I suppose I have that going for me.
I randomonly tried on eBay as I use it quite a lot (I didn't try auctions, just retailers on the site) and I saw one that caught my eye but it was £8.99 which whilst I am looking for a bargain, it's awfully cheap considering what it is. As per the previous post, their is an element of goth/ punk to it (It mentions it in the listing) but I personally don't see it when looking at it as it juyst looks like a good waistcoat.

eBay Item Number; 202444734736

All good suggestions here so I've no doubt you'll get the suit sorted out as well as your waistcoat. Shoes I'd argue though, complete a look and in some cases can either make or break it. Don't ignore them and make sure they 'go' [emoji1360]

next suits are good for a reasonable price. If you want ultra budget I've bought a suit in Primark and been pretty impressed. I think it was under £50. definitely under £60.
