I've got a sigma 28-105 2.8-4 and whilst it's a very useful lens in terms of length and aperture it's very inconsistent in it's results in terms of sharpness. Unless it's stepped down a fair bit then sometimes the pictures are unuseable. Can anyone recommend something similar, must be sigma or other 3rd party make to fir minolta/sony, must be fast aperture, fast focussing and most of all sharp wide open. Reson for being I've been at an enduro race all weekend and yesterdays light was attrocious so I had to have it wide open and the shots aren't really sharp enough for my liking.

Cheers all,
Kev

May not be what you are looking for but why not trade up to Nikon/Canon and get your hands on the raft of 2nd hand pro lenses that float around.

Just a suggestion.

Can't afford to in the slightest Gary. Would lose so much money on the 5d and lenses trying to get back in the same position with another manufacturer. Things are slowly getting back to normal with Sigma and things with Tamron should be sorted soon seeing as Sony own a large chunk of Tamron and fingers crossed there will be details of a new Sony coming out in the next few months.

Look at the Tamron 28-75. Whilst the range may be less, the sharpness and maximum f2.8 aperture throughout the range is fantastic.
