I had two but I have snapped one and the other is just too flimsy. I tried a long exposure in strong with yesterday and the camera looked like a flag the way it was flapping around on the tripod. The one I snapped was just as bad, it was a free one I got with a mag subscription and it didn't turn out very good when I fell on my arse and bent it.

I don't know where to start with looking for a new tripod. I want it to be sturdy with a good amount of height, but also be ale to go pretty low as well. Budget wise preferably less than £100.

Cheers.

i got a bnib kood carbon fibre one from a shop bicester in oxfordshire ,i think its expo imaging or something like that ,the tripod is about 6'4'' without a head on it ,very sturdy and cost me around £120 ,extremely pleased with it

Cheers will check them out. Desperately need a new one. I'm wanting to try more long exposures and the tripod I have remaining is just not upto it.

Very pleased with the quality of my Red Snapper and their readiness to swap it after I managed to order the wrong one.

another vote for red snapper..had mine for nearly a year and its been fantastic

That's Imagex - they're my local camera shop (ex-Jessops).

I got a Redsnapper basic model & 3 way head for Christmas. It's nice & stable, looks very well made and comes in a great bag. However the twist locks on the legs are fiddly & the head is functional but not great (it's cheap, & I'm not 'complaining'). Also have a look at the Konig pro 60. I bought one used back in the autumn, and it's also nice & stable, looks well made and with flip locks instead of twist & a ball head (also not wonderful, but fully functional). The Konig is a touch heavier, but only a little - could be good or bad for you - and came in a cheap & nasty bag.

yep thats the one toni ,very good to deal with and some super prices .i think my tripod was virtually half price and far exceeded what i wanted

first check for a tripod is to check the weight it can hold, then see how much movement it has when fully extended. Even shutter slap can move an extended tripod if its weak. Check what height it can reach and if it can be lowered down to ground level. Can the centre arm be swung sideways so you can get over an object. The Manfrotto 055XPROB can do all this and I highly recommend it
