So, I've had the Netgear Orbi for 8 months now. It's been okay(ish) but recently I've been having major issues with it. If I need to turn the power off or if I have a power failure it takes me hours to get it up and running again. Either the speed is less than a meg or my office doesn't connect blah blah. Netgear have pushed numerous dud firmware updates that have killed the network and then I've had to downgrade and reconfigure everything from scratch. Today I lost my rag and contacted Amazon and they've agreed to take it back for a full refund.

So, I need a replacement. It needs to be stable, great wifi range and speed.
I bought the Orbi (mesh) system because my old Netgear Nighthawk wouldn't cover the whole house. It was a great router but signal wasn't great everywhere.
I am in a different house now. It's old and running cables is not really an option so I'm relying on Wifi for most devices along with a Develo Netplug which feeds the wifi and switch in my office.

I'm thinking Asus, they seem to get good reviews but was also looking at the Linksys mesh system

Any highly recommended products?

I've been very happy with my Asus DSL N55U for speed, use and coverage, though there's probably newer versions now.

I forgot to mention I find the Google Wifi mesh pretty good.

I did look a at the Google system before buying the Orbi. The only thing that puts me off them is that it's google. I don't trust Google
Fair enough. My wife works for Google so have to wave the flag a bit

The Asus kit looks good. May look at two of these in a mesh config

Cool well I have no need for mine - Been meaning to throw it up on the classifieds anyway. Let me know if its of interest.

I'm about to sell either an Asus RT-AC68U (with 18 months warranty remaining) or a sealed, warranty replacement RT-AC66U (with no warranty). If you're interested in either please put something in the Wanted sales section.
I've now got an RT-AC86U so want to keep one of the two as a spare but don't care which.

Tplink Deco mesh here and been very happy using them in router mode with the vm superhub in modem mode.

Got 2 cable backhauled and 1 meshed. The meshed one is obviously slower throughput (mesh uses part of the bandwidth etc) but the cabled ones use the full speed of my 250mb vm.

3 nodes in the tplink system too.

I'll look into those. Thanks

After years of suffering with BTs own router, and several other cheap ones (we have teenagers so high internet use across multiple devices), I bit the bullet and bought an Asus AC5300 at the end of last year and it's been faultless. I think I've rebooted it once in the time I've had it, and that was becasue I changed some settings which required a restart. It has a QOS setting which allowed me to optimise normal browsing over gaming and streaming video.

Over the years I used the PlusNet supplied one replaced very rapidly with a Netgear....but that was having trouble I could not resolve holding connection on my long line

Got a Billion and it has been a very good router and should I be able to afford fibre it is configurable to connect to the BT fibre modem.

Have a billion as well, it was replaced with the netgear nighthawk because the WiFi range was dismal.
Currently I’ve put my nighthawk back and it’s working well in our new house. Covers the whole house with good WiFi so I may not be replacing the orbi afterall.

I’ve just had an email from Amazon to let me know they’ve refunded me £350 so may spend it on something else instead.

Just need a simple wifi access point for the office.

.

Interesting, my Billion 7800DXL has decent WiFi on both bands. This is a 1970's built house and I even get a workable signal something like 100 + feet away on the hardstanding by the garage.

I’m pressuring sure mines a 7800DXL too but I was never impressed with the WiFi range. With the router in the hallway (middle of the house) I got no signal in the kitchen which was through one door about 6m away.
