Need a bag for tripod

I need a bag to put a Gitzo 5541 LS into. I need one which can be put over my shoulder with the tripod on my back. The Gitzo bags are stupid money and only have a carry handle which i can see. Would prefer a padded bag if possible for some protection.

They come with a shoulder strap Mark, however would you not be as well with a Tripod strap, thus not having to mess about with a bag.

The Optech one is pretty good for under £20

mmmm, the reason was thinking about a bag was to save it getting scratched and damaged in woodland etc. Will nee to have a think as all the bags i see wont allow it to be carried with the Gimbal head attached.

I just sold my Redsnapper bag with the tripod but that may have done to carry without the head in place although it IS a big tripod.

Tamrac do a few tripod bags at around 40-50 notes IIRC, Morris photo stock them I think.

Stu.

Why bother with a bag for a tripod?

Usually I just strap it to my rucksack, but if you don't have one, just find a strap from an old camera bag or suchlike and find a way to clip it on the top and bottom of the tripod?

Tripod getting scratched by trees or rocks is really not of concern. If anything I feel a bit of a numpty with a shiny looking tripod, they're pretty geeky.

And it's not the kind of thing you frequently sell like a lens, so...

I like to look after my gear and if i can eliminate scratches and marks on a very expensive item then i would like to do so added to that it stops it gathering dust in the house.

Fair enough I guess.

Part of the reason for buying expensive photography equipment is because it's robust and doesn't need looking after, so you don't need to spend money or time on inconvenient protective gear, but I do appreciate the instinct to look after it, as kit certainly looks nice when new :D And sometimes smells lush too.

I was an MB-D10 sniffing addict for a week when I first got it, alas, the smell has gone now.
