Nebie from north, first decent camera canon 1000d

Hi there, just got a nice christmas present off my mother as im interested in learning to take some good pics. Pretty much new to all this photography stuff so go easy but i wanna learn

Looking around at the budget DSLR's i ended up going for the Canon 1000d, it was either that or the Nikon d60 vr lens kit or the Sony alpha a200.

Had a bit play with it but to be fair i dont understand it yet Thats why im here, apparently you guys are the ones to see
