I am in the market for a new MacBook Pro and will be in the UK next week so went online to buy it and have it shipped to my daughters house in Scotland so that it will be waiting for me when I get there. Luckily enough one of the guys that I work with said I might be cheaper to buy it in Malaysia (where I live) and low and behold its nearly 520 quid cheaper for exactly the same thing WTFIWT??
Here's the spec;
  • 2.8GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz
  • 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
  • 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
  • Backlit Keyboard (Int'l English) & User's Guide (English)
  • Accessory Kit
Uk Price 2149 pounds
Malaysia Price 1636 pounds

I will wait and buy it in Malaysia

So in future we will send you the dosh & your ship them back to blighty :D

So how much for lens :D:D:D

Nice save

even if you take into consideration 20% VAT in the UK they still have nearly another 200 quid on top of that...................

education pricing makes it more affordable. Most families have kids, students at uni or are teachers / staff themselves. 30-50% buyers could do it if they were aware and cared enough.

That would've cost you a lot more than 500 quid extra, if you were only after a Macbook Pro and ended up buying a four grand desktop. ;)

That would be rather bending the rules wouldn't it? Just like people buying Adobe stuff from the education store because, well, we all went to school at some point right? And it is really expensive. ;)

Don't worry, apple still makes a very healthy profit on education store sales. They'd rather you bought that rather than a PC or android tablet. :)

That’s right! Shop at the Apple Store for Education and save up to £159 on a new Mac, and
up to £26 on a new iPad in addition to special pricing on select AppleCare products

Still only 159 pound saving over 520..............I guess Apple thinks us folks from the UK have more money than the yanks and that we can subsidies them:)

Are you comparing prices without VAT or local sales taxes included? Advertised prices in the USA don't include tax, but advertised prices in the UK do, and that distorts any comparison.

Very cheap, FX rate must be in your favour. When I was living in HK Apple gear was around 20% cheaper, but that was mostly due to the lack of sales tax. Picked up a Mac Air for the gf before leaving :)

Plus you need to take into account currency fluctuations. The pound is much weaker against the dollar as well over the last month about a 3% drop. That will also have an impact on other currencies. Plus there may be import tariffs. Not sure if this applies to Apple products. So it's really like Apples (pun sorry) and Oranges

You do realise that with education you get 3 years warranty, while AppleCare uplift addon is then only for phone support, etc. So taking warranty into account the price is not that terrible.
