I am looking to buy a set of ND grad filters to use with my 5D, 17-40, and 24-105 lens.
I live in the Fens, its very flat, so I am thinking ND hard grads.
Would I be better getting 85mm filters or 100mm filters ? Can you see the 85mm filter holder with my lens zoomed to 17mm ?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

hi there
personaly i would go for the 100mm if using a wide angle lens it will cover most other lenses you may have also.Have a look on the lee filters site good quality filters have used cokin nd's got a slight purple cast with them

I have the 85mm cokin, ended up having a huge discussion with Cokin US, the UK distributor and Warehouse Express. These have a slight purple tinge, which is OK, but if you stack them with another (i.e. grads with ND) then it's more a magenta filter than ND.

I found the 85mm ok until about 14-15mm on a 1.6 crop camera, then you started getting vignetting on the filter holder. If you plane to go wider then the Lee 100mm seems the best option.

Thanks for the replies. I have had a bit of a look around and the Hi tech 100mm hard grad set seems like a good deal from www.teamwork.com. Anybody used these filters or the company ?

Here's a good tip: Buy a soft edged grad and if you want a hard edge for a particular photo put the filter in the holder upside down part way in.

Used both the company and Hi-tech filters. Good comments on both accounts. Currently got an order for a set of Lee soft grad filters with them but been out of stock for a fair while so going to order the Hi-tech 100mm filter set (to replace my 85mm set) tomorrow if they are in stock for the meantime. They seem very good value:thumbs:

Agree with Byker...I have had my Cokin replaced and am looking to get a set of Lee - you pay for quality... I had another thread on this a couple of months back with some examples to show magenta cast with Cokin (z pro series)

Thanks for all of your tips and help. I have just ordered a set of Hi Tech 100mm ND grads with a Lee holder and lens adapter ring. I've ordered them from www.teamwork.com, I hope they don't take long to arrive!

Have got the 85mm from them and can say they are very good, although i now need 100mm ones for 5dmkII as i can see the adaptor on the 17-40L.Alway's something else to buy!!
