Hi, could anyone tell me which size nd grad I need for my canon 15-85mm? I am looking at a set of hitech filters but not sure if the 85mm size will be big enough? They are half the cost of the 100mm set and I'd prefer the smaller ones if there won't be too much of an issue with vignetting. Thanks in advance.

I used to use 85mm hitech grads on a 67mm dia 17-85mm and also a 77mm dia 10-20mm.

There was no issue with vignetting on the 17-85mm and provided I used a slim one slot holder there was only a slight issue with the 10-20mm around the 10-11mm range.

Not sure if that's any help or not.

If your after the Hitech, check out Bristol cameras, as i think there the cheapest place around about £3.00 cheaper for each filter.

But do a search first.. there's a couple of threads about Bristol, their prices and stock levels..

There are also some comparison threads for the Lee, Cokin and Hitech systems. The Hitech 85s tend to not compare as well as the Hitech 100s.

Always buy a filter system suitable for your next lens, rather than your last one. Could be a 15-85 today, but a 10-20 tomorrow.

Thanks for all your advice. I think I'm going to get a couple of 85's to see how I get on with them, and get one each of hard and soft to see what suits what I photograph.
But good point Alastair about looking ahead, as I'm also thinking about a C-PL and was considering getting a 77mm with a step up ring for my 15-85mm which is 72mm as I have one other lens which is 77mm but also thinking ahead to possible future upgrades. Not quite sure though as never used step up ring before... I will do some more searching on this very helpful forum!
