Hi,

I would like to buy a set of ND filters however unsure about what I need. I've seen the 2 types, I dont think the screw on ones offer that much flexibility - so thinking about the holder types.

I have 2 lenses to use these on, one is a Tokina 11-16mm and the other is Sigma 17-70 - would I need 2 holder?

Can someone help me spec up something for the lenses please?

Thanks in advance

you would not need 2 holders, if the filter thread size is different then you use a second adaptor ring. What sort of budget have you got? As this will change whet is reccomended, in order of cost cokins, hitech , lee. personally have lee soft ndg filters with a 105mm b&w cpl filter and adaptor ring on the front of a lee filter holder, the total cost for the complete set as listed was approx £600.

Thanks Dave

The budget is cheap and cheerful to play with them - if it works out and I use them a fair bit then I'll upgrade. They are only for casual use :)

I would look at the cokin filters for cheaper, make sure you get the latest ones as earlier cokin gnds had a habit of causing a colour cast. do a search for speedgraphics yhey get very good reviews and also offer good prices from what have read.

There's a kood set on evilbay at the moment, i have a set of these and have had no issues with them.

*the link is posted for reference only and i have no connections with the seller

After some research on here for a 'starter' filter kit. I am buying the following soon if it is of any guidance.

Don't bother with the cokin/kood holders, get the eBay items instead, much cheaper - yes, buy two of them, one for each lens, and cut the front off one of them leaving only one slot; this would be for the 11-16mm so it only takes one filter and doesn't vignette when used at 11mm - lots of folks do the same thing for their Sigma 10-20mm lenses.

There's previous threads on here about it with pictures... worth a thought.
