Hi, I am off on my jollies in a couple of weeks and am obviously taking a camera and limited gear with me.

Whilst there I would mind potentially having a stab at the sunset into the sea shot, would someone be able to point me in the direction of a suitable ND filter to do the job and maybe a bit of steer on settings to get the best out of it. I don't want to buy something get out there for it to not be suitable/be sh*t.

Likely gear to be taken D7000, 35mm 1.4 (67mm)

Any help would be appreciated.

Sunset over the sea will probably have a nice straight horizon so maybe you should be thinking more about a graduated filter rather than a solid ND?

I went for Cook myself and they're good enough for me but I suppose one decision should be if you are going for screw on filters or a slot in system. Usual ones are ND2, 4 and 8 soft or hard.

Have to say that some people report colour shifts and other nastiness with Cokin filters but despite buying mine over time and therefore presumably from different batches I haven't had any real issues. Other filter systems may well be better but will no doubt cost more.

Maybe you could do some practice shots before going on holiday and decide if you really want to go for a filter system? If you do decide to buy you'll have to think about the budget and if you're going to go for something you think might be a long term quality option (Lee, Hitek etc) or a more budget filter (Cokin, Kood etc) I hardly bother with my grads and in fact I can't remember the last time I used them. The only filters I tend to use now are ND's for getting the shutter speed down.

PS. If you go for a slot in system my advice is to buy an adapter for a large diameter lens filter thread and buy step up rings for your smaller diameter lenses.
