Hi all,
I'm Sam and I'm 33 (well, tomorrow I will be). As will become apparent in my future posts, I'm absolutely clueless with photography, cameras and lenses. I am, of course, here to learn!
I've long fancied a 'proper' camera but it has only been recently that I've started to look more into it. I enjoy the great outdoors and after my most recent jolly to the Welsh borders, I really regretted not having a DSLR. The little digital Lumix I have is a great little camera - and is certainly handy - but I feel point-and-shoots make me lazy; I think I would take some better pictures if I had to stop and think about things a little longer as I would with a DSLR.
My photography interests would be centred around taking some nice pictures of the family and our kids, wildlife, landscapes and scenery. I would also like to have a go with my children with making some stop-frame animation... just as something for us to do really, nothing serious.
Anyhow, I'm considering buying a Nikon D5300. I've watched countless Youtube videos and in my opinion it seems a reasonable camera? What are your thoughts? The WiFi and GPS thing made it stand out for me from a few other considerations.
I look forward to reading through the forum!

The Nikon camera is a really good place to start in your photography. Any problems just ask.
