added the naked women bit cus no ones answered all day :)

I have to photogrpah some large tables of guests and some stand up pics... its a charity boxing match where I am photogrpahing the boxing but at last minute had some walk around the room stuff plonked on me :( tommorow..

my weak point in photogrpahy is flash its just beyond me and I am not looking to learn at this point as i havent time for too much trial and error..

I have the canon mkIII and mkIV, I have a canon 550 ex and a quantum 1+ battery pack

I am thinking bang the camera in P mode... put the flash on ettl and set the iso to 800 (no noise on mk3 or mk4 at 800)

the room will be too high and wide to bounce flash..

is there amin shutter speed as trial have it at around 125

any tips please?

basicaly,

I hear good things about a ttl cable and umbrella on a stick tied to your neck but you look like a pillock

man, I have no idea how to answer your question, but I can't stop laughing reading this line :bang::bang::bang:

Make a bounce card for the flash using some inkjet photo paper or better still Funky Foam and use this as a starting point:
F8, 1/60 sec ISO400. Stick the flash on ETTL and off you go

Edit: Funky Foam can be bought from The Range ( http://www.therange.co.uk/invt/000539 ) for 39p per sheet last time I looked in my local store.

The stuff they make 'for sale' boards works pretty well and is weatherproof. Obviously you have to choose a bit that doesn't have printing on. I wouldn't possibly suggest you help yourself.

The advantage of using Funky Foam is the fact that you can fold some of it back, which acts as a kind of flash compensation and can be returned to it's full height when more light is required. Not sure if this can be done with the material you are talking about?

None-the-less, weather using a bounce card or not the settings I gave in my original post should be a good starting point for the OP.
