Embarking on my first 52 week challenge. I'm hoping this is the push to get me photographing outside, even if locally. It's difficult with 3 children and work and long commutes to work, but I'll try my best.
Comments are very welcome.

I like the composition of the first shot, although I think you could have had greater DOF to get the whole 20p in focus and still had an effective shot.

I love the light in the second photo, it's actually my favourite of the two.

Thanks Nick. I'll do it again tomorrow when I get a chance.

Hi, and welcome aboard

#1 for me. Well composed and nice B&W photograph.

I'd agree the DOF needs to a little wider to get the text in focus.

Cheers.

Both are good but my fave is #2 probably because of the colour cast and the DoF which retains enough detail in the bg to give the subject context. Fabulous start - good luck with the rest of TP52.

Thanks Carl. Hoping the rest is just as...challenging :) I'm actually wondering if I should have increased DOF on the second one....

Doesn't need it particularly .... in my opinion but I suppose if you want to add extra interest maybe worth experimenting a little.

Hello, my favourite is number two, first i like the light, very peaceful and welcoming. Sharpness is spot on and the perfect Dof. Good luck completing your 52.

#2 for me, I like the soft focus

Good luck with your 52

Carl

Nice start to your 52.

How long did it take you to balance that 20p? Nice shot but as others have said just a tiny bit more DOF would have been good.

#2 is really nice, good focus and enough DOF to still be able to tell what it is. Nice processing as well.

Thank you!! :)

Steve, not long. Then I didn't like the head on view so shifted it. Took me a while that time :D

Thank you Mandy. I'm a little stuck on the secondweeks' theme. I have an idea but...getting someone to be the subject could be tricky :D

I wanted to try something (no willing model), yet at the same time didn't want to do something 'typical/expected' for the captive theme. So I've settled with this. Not entirely happy but there you go.

Yes, definitely different and nicely taken too - like the light washing over the core and the small reflection of it in the corer itself. The only minor crit is the slight distraction caused by the dark upstand in the bg but nonetheless a very good take. Bravo

Thank you Carl. I do plan to edit the background, just I couldn't do it now. Too tired and I don't want to use the main computer. Will repost when I've had a chance to do it

....using a piece of plain card as a background can often save a lot of editing
I agree with Susie. I tend to use a sheet of paper or two to form a base and background to eliminate that edge between wall & table.

Like it, an unusual take on the theme. I'd loose the plate, have a nice clean BG and reflect a little light onto the front of the apple.

Cheers.

I like it, I particularly like the concept, nicely lit and I think the blue plate adds a bit of colour and helps separate the apple from the worktop. Peronally I'd be pleased with it as it is.

Thank you Chris :)

metal - both shots fit the theme I like the 2nd best
Captive - interesting take on the theme I like the picture

Hi

Captive - nice to see a different take on the theme. I think I would agree with Andy that it might have looked better without the plate but that's only personal preference.

Metal: 2 great images I prefer the second it has a bit of a dreamy feel to it

Captive: A different take on the theme I really like it but agree with others it would be a stronger image without the blue plate

Miniature. I had a few ideas (today!) but time isn't on my side - the subjects I wanted to use aren't available till the weekend. So I've gone with this. I know my editing isn't great on it, but...I'll leave you to make up your own minds.

H, liking your thinking for the theme, that lime green is cool.
