One of my most photographed subjects are my kids (3 and 18 months). This is understandably a pretty challenging subject at the best of times.

I usually like to shoot pretty close shots at 2.8 ( with a Tamron 28-75) but find getting the focus spot on quite tough, even when they're sitting still. I know I could move further away and/or use a higher aperture, but I want to know if there's any technique or methods that will improve my keep rate.

So has anyone any tips or things to try ( apart from sedating the kids - apparently that's illegal!)

Get a 70-200mm Greg, the Tammy is an excellent lens but not ideal for shooting kids in full flight, the AF on this lens just cant cope in these situations

theres a decent Sigma for sale at the mo

A half decent zoom is next on the list. Having said that kid number 3 is due in November, so it might have to wait a while......!

I think part of the problem I'm having is that I'm trying to get too close when taking the pictures which leaves me with a tiny area of focus, and then even slight movement is going to knock the focus off.
