What do you think?

I take it nobody has a comment.

Fair enough. :'(

I really like the first image but works better when I crop out the bottom flowers

2nd doesn't really work for tbh but that is just my opinion

Thanks for the comment but I was really asking about the painting effect.

I see what you mean about the crop though.

the painted processing doesnt work for me at all, sorry. like the original shot though

I quite like the effect personally, how was it done??

edit I love the Groucho avata Wayne

I take it nobody has a comment.

Don't you just hate it when that happens! :(

I guess the problem is that few people are fans of artistic filter type effects. I reckon its a well executed example of this style of editing though and the subject suits it nicely.

l like it. lts just enough.

l love playing around with effects like that.

l think its fine to take a photograph and make it look very different....its an extension of the art form.

Doing so actually is something l love to do in Photoshop.

Yes, thats the trick. Get that wrong and it's often horrible.

The 'Art' filters in photoshop never work IMO, they're o.k. for dicking about with but the effects are often sterile and synthetic.

If you're going to paint a scene then paint it is what I say.

Thanks for the comments and for me I must be more patient regarding replies.

As for Sprog's comment I have now printed the painted effect version and it looks twice as good as on screen. It actually looks like it is painted. So before you poo poo PS effects truy a print version and notice how the effects are more subtle. It must be something to do with screen resolution and the light from the monitor.

Happy manipulting. :)

I've seen hundreds of 'PS painted' prints, even on canvas they look synthetic.

I'll poo poo away until I see a good one.

I think that this sort of thing has its place (and although Im not a great fan, I quite like this one). Strikes me that this is the sort of thing you might do for a website, if the design calls for a painted effect. Would suit a holiday or property site perhaps?

 for trying something new...
 for result...

Not my cup of tea but i'm sure there's someone out there who appreciates the style.

It's not bad, but the bokeh really doesn't agree with it. When you're painting something, you generally don't paint the background out of focus :p

Well - being different !!!

#1 is an okay but boring shot of a flower with an odd background (for a flower study)

#2 (if cropped to just below the yellow thing on the RHS - quite a heavy crop I know) is a lovely study of a romantic holiday spot, and the painterly effect has been well done IMO

So I say - well done

I don't think it works. It's just not the right subject for this effect. The background simulates acrylic work, but the foreground doesn't match this style. It just looks as if it has been stuck on. Instead of using filters try creating the effect by manual methods.
