Lo all,

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting any shots recently. This is partly due to not taking many shots, partly due to the holidays, partly due to my final year of uni and finally because I've been working on my website.

If you haven't clicked my sig recently then give it a go now. I uploaded a few new photos from over Christmas and I've been putting together a design portfolio so I've been photographing all of my recent work which is now on the site.

It works best in Firefox but does work in IE. C+C is very welcome on the site as a whole and on any of the photos that catch your eye.

Cheers

Looks quite stylish but a couple of things I've noticed straight away:
1. When you hover over a link it's so dark it nearly disappears
2. The margin on the left is too big. You need to position it centrally dynamically so that it moves to the centre of the screen relative to the size of your browser. Not sure if that makes sense. I'm sure someone will be along to tell you how to do it.

For me, the hover over the full size pictures to get the navigation buttons feature is counter intuitive. When I look at a full size photo I don't like having the mouse pointer in the way, so didn't see the controls until I moved the mouse by mistake. Otherwise as above :)

Thanks for the fast replies guys.

I chose black as the roll-over colour on purpose but if enough people find it a problem I can change it.

Someone else on another forum has mentioned the left margin. I will have to work out how to centre it relative to screen size, it's because I'm using a 24" screen that's caused the problem but thanks for pointing it out.

Ben, that's lightbox 2.0, a Java plug-in and that's how it was designed. Nothing to do with me. I quite like the fact that until you roll-over it the navigation buttons don't interfere with the picture.

Agree with the rollover issue, try a colour that works with black rather than them disappearing altogether.

Hi Panzer,

I hate the fact that the navigation buttons interfere with the picture at all :) - it is even worse for me now I realise they only come on when the mouse is over the left (previous) or right (next) half of the picture :(

To bad it is a plugin, otherwise you could have put them in the bottom bar where the Close button is and, arguably, where they should be as well.

Aside from the navigation, and the rollover, the site is fine though :) keep up the good work

Thanks for the comments chaps, keep them coming.

Ben I see what you're saying, putting the navigation all at the bottom would make it much more intuitive. I might have a play with the Java code and see if I can change it (this would mean learning Java).

I'll also change the roll-over text colour. A nice bright orange or 100% cyan should contrast enough with the rest of the site.

As part of my course I also have to design some stationery so I need to decided on the colours. I'm sticking with the greyscale but I think you guys are right, it needs a colour to liven it up.

I also need to work out how to have it auto-centred for which ever screen it's viewed on.

I'll post back when I've made the changes.

Right guys,

I've finally got around to making the suggested changes. It should now flow quite happily no matter what resolution you're viewing it at. Getting rid of the absolute positioning soon fixed that.

I've given the roll-over text a nice orange make over and I've applied the same colour treatment to the different section headings to make them a bit clearer as well as showing the main photography page is a list of categories rather than images.

Any more input would be great.

Here's the link again

Cheers
