I'm gonna side with Jean on this, I prefer the first. Losing the top of the flagpole is minor, maybe a bit more contrast, but overall, it's more interesting. There's something about the way the light washes those angles of the rooves, offset with the shadowed cross in the foreground gives me a more interesting feel.
I'll go with #2I like the simplicity of the composition and the colours!

Nice shots, I think the first one could do with a slightly wider aperature as like Spartacus said, the image is a bit flat.

There is something about the foreground and the large cross being darker and the church behind it being lighter which makes me keep going back to it. The flag pole is a minor distraction and I'd have cloned it out but overall it's an attractive and unusual take on the church/churchyard theme.
Look forward to seeing week 3's image.
