Hello All

I'm in a little bit of a quandry about which lens to save my hard earned pennies for. I have a Pentax K100d and my lens collection currently consists of:

Pentax SMC-DA 18-55mm AF
Pentax SMC-A 50mm MF
Takumara-A Zoom 28-80mm MF

I am lacking something in the telephoto range for wildlife etc, so I am thinking about going for this one:

Tamron 70-300mm

Any advice, suggestions or pointers will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi mate.

Don't know if this is of any use to you, but ....

If the k100d has a Pentax Ka fit, I have the following lenses from an old SLR camera.

Don't want much for them if you're interested in taking them off my hands ...

Hoya 35-75mm lens, 55mm thread. f4 - f22.

Mitsuki 100 - 200mm. 58mm thread. f4 - f22

28mm prime lens. Mira.... writing has slightly rubbed off lens so I am unsure of make. Lens works fine. 49mm thread. f2.8 - 22

Infravision 75 - 300mm zoom. 58mm thread. f4.5 - 22.

Cheers.

Anth.

PS - I also have that Tamron lens on my d50 and it is a lovely piece of kit - nice images.

The nearest to it for the price is the equivalent Sigma 70-300mm, but there is not much between the two at all.

Aye, might be worth sitting it out as Pentax are releasing a few new telephotos very shortly.

Hold off for now if I were you bud. See whats round the corner.

Thanks for the offer of the lenses, I'll have a think about it. I have heard some good things about Tamron lenses too which i why i started to look at this one.

I hadn't heard about the new Telephotos though, i'll do some googling and see what I can find. Thanks

Major Features of the smc PENTAX-DA* 50-135mm F2.8ED [IF]SDM Lens

When mounted on a PENTAX digital SLR camera body, this 2.7x zoom lens covers angles of view from 76.5mm to 207mm (in 35mm format). Coupled with a large maximum aperture of f/2.8, it is a perfect telephoto zoom lens for applications such as portraiture, featuring beautifully constructed, out-of-focus backgrounds, and sports photography freezing split-second action at high shutter speeds.

Incorporating three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements, this telephoto zoom lens effectively minimises the chromatic aberrations which would be particularly detrimental to image-forming performance.
This telephoto zoom lens is treated with PENTAX-original ghostless coating to effectively minimise internal reflections in the optical elements and greatly improve contrast and clarity with backlit subjects.
