Is it normal for the focus ring to feel very stiff?
 
i think some people are too young and just not fusty and crusty enough to be in this room . :D

very nice machine as well ,,,,and in my humble and generaly ignored opinion , part of the fun in using fillum is what you use as the light tight box ,

Very impressive bit of kit is that. A lovely light tight box indeed.
 
How tight is the focus? It shouldn't be difficult to turn. If it's been sat unused for a while it may loosen up over the new few weeks. My Canon LTM feels quite a bit better after giving it a good workout for a week on holiday.

Nice camera BTW...I think they did an earlier model with a proper film counter :exit:

Could be just a big of use. Seemed stuck at first but now moves but needs firm use. Seemed to free up a little, so will keep playing with it. It is a 59yo lens but does seem an effort.

Sounds like old grease and years of tiny bits of muck that's hardened. It should free off a bit with use or (if it was a much cheaper lens) you could try dribbling a little lighter fluid down the barrel to help soften it up but that carries a risk of oil and grease getting out on to the lens elements or aperture blades. Best thing to do would be a service/CLA.
 
I've always wanted an M2 or M3, and I think it would make friends with my F2 very quickly, but they're just too far out of reach for me. I might just be able to afford the body, but the lenses get expensive very quickly! Enjoy it.

In a word NO,it should be silky smooth,if not you should get it looked at by some one who knows.

Will be sending it back to MW Classic - it was described as 'smooth focus'. Shame as its in excellent condition otherwise bit very hard to use.
