Hi

My macro lens has stopped AF today, well its intermittent, well sick so no more macro fungi sent it off to see how much it will cost, so now Ill have to use my kit lens for shots

I had the problem when my 100/2.8L Macro desided not to focus. Though itwas not intermitent. After a few moments panic. Realised I had set custom function C fn III for unable to find focus to 1 insted of 0. But i am shure your not as daft as me

Thank Melvyn, its deffo the lens as we cleaned the terminals in the shop and tested it on another camera :( I did just check my settings and their OK all my other lens still AF

Awe thanks for your concern everyone, NOT, I feel lost already without it as I use it daily, being less mobile these days its a great loss, lets hope its fixed soon, and doesnt cost the earth, and its fungi season I was just getting into my stride, :(
 
You and your fungi Dave lol I think you are the offical TP fungi specialist ;)

Sorry to hear that - my camera decided to stop working recently...well actually it had the same problem 3 times. But it's OK now so I'm all good again lol.

Hope you get yours sorted soon and it doesn't cost you too much!

Hi Dave,

Assuming you are talking about the Canon 100mm Macro?

Last week I had cause to take my EF 50mm f/1.4 to Canon Elstree as it too had lost the ability to autofocus.

It looks like they have a standard repair charge of £104 for lenses of this calibre if my experience there has anything to go by...

Of course if yours goes to another repairer then they may have their own pricing structure in place.

Turn around time with Canon was exemplary...dropped the 50mm off last Thursday 4pm along with a 300mm f/2.8 & 500mm f/4 just to be serviced and given a clean bill of health and picked up all three of them 4pm Friday...maybe my CPS Membership played a part?

However on checking the lenses on return the 300mm had marks on the 52mm drop-in and the 500mm had smears on the front element...not good for items that were supposed to have been cleaned. They came out dirtier than they went in!

Poor service...:thumbsdown:

Thanks Glyn, yeah Ive had things fixed at Elstree before very fast quick service courier picked it up and brought it back

I should have said thought it is a Sigma 105mm macro, I didnt mention it as most people know I use that,

Gutted for you Dave, I've just started using mine more and more as the change in the season has bought out a whole new lot of subjects. Hope you get it sorted soon and cheaply as possible.
 
Have you got any other lenses you can be using in the interim for the fungi shots? I did a few the other day just using the nifty 50 and they turned out rather nice, but depends on what you like tbh!
 
It's a shame Dave, really been enjoying your fungi shots, even though your phallus shot made me feel quite inadequate.

Thanks for your concern evryone, Fear not a generous forum member :clap::clap::clap::clap: has come to my rescue and is dropping off a macro lens this morning for me to use until mines fixed :woot: :banana: back on stand by for more
 
:woot: Lisa forum member, has just brought the 50mm macro lens to my house for me, very very kind offer to loan it to me whilst mines away being fixed over the moon I can still shoot macro, Thank you so much Lisa :clap::clap::clap:

We've just had a 100mm macro go wrong at work - no AF. Lehmans assessed and it's £360 to repair.... mould/fungus damage to internal elements. Cheaper to buy another...

Thanks Baz I was lost without it :eek: but Lisa kindly loaned me a 50mm macro :thumbs:


Fraid so on the fungi, soz youll have to suffer, when we can get out, Im better now but carrying the tripod is a bit much, could do with swapping it for a carbon one but cant afford it :(

Hows your leg now? and when can we go out?

Thanks Lisa Im really pleased you like the flowers, now youve got your lens back youve got a good subject, wasnt sure if you would like the bright coloured ones so got you the 12 yellow roses as well for good measure, thanks again for loaning it to me :)
