My laptop spec, add a monitor or not?

My laptop is too small for effective editing and am thinking of adding an external monitor.
Do you think it's worth doing,?

i7 - 6500 cpu 2.5 ghz, 2.6 ghz
8 gig ram
256 gig ssd

If its worth it, what kind of monitor would you suggest

Yes, it's worth adding a monitor - look at the IPS Dell screens for good value, preferably 24" 1920 X 1200 (not 1080 unless you can't find anything better). I use a Dell U2412M, but that's probably obsolete now.
