No, not the group :D

Whilst visiting Salts Mill in Bradford some months ago, I saw one of David Hockney's installations where he had photographed the same place over the four season. Very large, and vey impressive.

This is the one I mean, clicky linky

Anyway, whilst perusing Flipboard I saw that someone else had done it. "I'll be doing that", I thought :D

The issue I have is when to take the photographs? I want to reflect the traditional views of the seasons, red leaves, snow, bare leaves and blooming flowers :D

But, I could also, take a photograph on the date each season starts

Northern Hemisphere:
Winter: Dec. 21
Spring:March 21
Summer: June 21
Autumn: September 22 or 23

I might go with both. I'm going to create four panels in PS and populate each section as I take the photograph.

I have a few ideas for locations, just need to fix it down to one.

Anybody fancy joining me so we can provide encouragement

Cheers.

just took a look at your linky & thought...why not...I'd be up for giving it a go

I have one idea for the where...thinking cap on for timing & other places

Sounds good to me, I've been wanting to do something like this for a while

Count me in

I will however do it starting with Spring though

Super, I've taken a few from different locations, and have set a reminder to keep an eye out for different venues and to revisit where I've already been.

Cheers.

I really like this Idea and I think I am going to have a go too. But i have one question now it may be a bit silly and the answer quite obvious but I have been trying to work it out and have come up blank. Apart from setting your tripod In cement at your chosen location how do you get the exact same image 3 months apart?

I quite like that question....Mr Andy....comments please :D

Lol, I did think the same and spent a bit of time trying to work out how accurate GPSs are :D. Not accurate enough, I find out. I've got a few so far, one is easy enough to get because its between a gate.m I also thought about stamping a few golf tees in so I could find the places again...then I thought , 'what if it snows?'.

The others, well I was going to print a photograph, perhaps a3 size and take it with me. TBH, with it being a landscape I didn't suppose being a foot or so out will make that much difference. For me it's the changing season that I'm after and not an uber precise composition.

The David Hockney seasons photograph isn't that exact...and I had a really close look when I went to Salts Mill :nono:

Cheers.

Golf tees that is brilliant got some in a Christmas cracker this year as well. Now all I have to do is find some locations and prey for cold weather so I can get started!!!!

I did something similar a few years ago and photographed a particular tree every month. I found in that instance an exact spot was difficult as the tree grew - a surprisng amount over the year and the hedge I was shooting over got higher and higher - I had to use step ladder and got some funny looks over the year

Would printing your image onto acetate work? If you roughly know where to place your tripod and have the measurements written down it could help align the shot.

You could also take a recording of your metadata - this should give you focal lengths etc.

I might also suggest you try experimenting with time of day to begin with (rather than seasons) - leaving the location and then returning later at specific times - sunrise, mid morning, mid day, mid afternoon, sunset for example.

Am up for trying this myself

Spooks

There are loads of variables, I'm going to keep it simple and just photograph at a similar time on each season. I'm also doing the 'TP52' and '2013 etc' projects so have to keep it simple :bonk:

Cheers and I'll look out for your photographs.
