Hi all, my first post on this forum.

Can I ask what people think of Paintshop Pro? I have used it for ages and get decent results. But..having looked at this and other forums there does not appear to be the enthusiasm for it that i have. With this in mind i have tried and tried and tried to get "into" Photoshop but cannot get my head round some of the things that i can do with a couple of clicks in Paintshop.

Is it me that is a slow learner or am i missing something???

Your opinions or suggestions welcome.

I used to use Paintshop Pro but don't have it installed on this machine (newish PC) and agree that Photoshop seems a lot fussier.

I use paint shop pro photo XI I have no issues with it.
I am slowly geting to grips with elements 5 but still use PSP

If I could work out how to get PSP to autorotate my pictures I'd use it in a second. Far quicker to work with than the PS memory hog.

I used PSP 7 for years then changed over to Elements 4.0 (can't afford CS)

I find PSP is beter for cloning & cutting/pasting images while Elements is better for levels / colour tweaking

I'll agree with that

I've never used PSP - started with PS1 in college and came back to it when i got into photog seriously 18 months ago (CS2 version). Now upgraded to CS3. It used to take hours to do anything, but now i've sufficiently scratched the surface to be able to do pretty much what i want / need to do and the length of time needed has dropped to minutes from hours. I could still lose half a day fiddling, but couldn't live without it

If you are happy that PSP works for you then do not worry about what other people like or use. If you are not feeling restricted by something you cannot do in PSP then there is no reason to change.

Just like some people prefer using a Canon, Nikon, or Pentax they will prefer the feel of one computer application over another. If you find PSP the quickest and easiest and it does what you need then that is all that matters.

Michael.

I use PSP 7. I started out with pretty much the original version and have stuck with it over the years, although I have other packages too including CS2.

I do use CS2 occasionally, but it's usually when I want to use some plugin filter only available for Photoshop. Generally speaking I find Photoshop very heavy on system resources... and I have a fast PC.

Stop beating yourself up - stick with PSP if it's what you prefer, it's more than capable of doing anything you're ever likely to need.( Except auto rotate it seems. :D)

Likewise I find CS too complicated to learn, I don't use psp but if I did I'd be happy with it.

I have PSP7 and PS Elements 4.

I've been using PSP7 for quite a few years and everything I know is pretty much self taught, its quite easy to use.

Elements as others have said is probably better at the more technical stuff but I'm finding it a lot harder to remember how to do things. Ie. I'll make an adjustment or effect one day that I like and then next time I want to do it I can't flipping remember how.

Ah well I'll get there in the end.

Andrea

File > Preferences > File Format Preferences

Tick the box for Rotate based on EXIF

Sorry to jump in this thread but can anyone recommend any good self help books on Photoshop and/or course?

I'm on a Nikon course on Monday for Capture NX but does Adobe do anything similar???

I'm using PSP9, it doesn't appear to have that option. Just downloaded 11 which does.

Been a while since I used v9 :)

FWIW, the one serious problem with PSP is the broken colour management when it comes to printing - it simply doesn't work despite having options for selecting printer profiles, etc. I use QImage for my printing so it doesn't matter but it's something to keep in mind (PSP+QImage is still cheaper than CS2/3 anyway).

Jozza

I got a copy of "The photoshop cs2 book for digital photographers" by Scott Kelby published by New Riders / Peachpit.

I tracked it down of Amazon New and used section paid £19 for it and as a newby to PS found it very useful.

I originally asked my local library to get a copy which they did but the book is a great reference point so I keep in on my desk at all times.

hope this helps

I used psp7 for years, then moved on to psp9, and few months ago finally upgraded to the newest corel XI, i love psp to bits, and have no intention of moving over to photoshop. Its stupidly overpriced, and has so many useless features, for me anyway. Corel XI does everything i need, and its a bargain at about £40.

The Scott Kelby book is very good, but is quite prescriptive. If you want to know the whys etc, then the Martin Evening book (with an almost identical title to the Scott Kelby book) is superb.

psp all the way for me, its what i taught myself on and PS feels bloated and cumbersome in comparison
