I asked a few questions on the forum concerning my first order from DSCL, well today the prints turned up and here are my thoughts-

I used the lustre profile i got from them to do my prints and im glad i did. I had to lighten slightly and add back a little colour but nothing major. The process of ordering was really easy with the online system and anyone could do it, even those who have never had anything printe like myself.

Order went in Wed morning and have just turned up at my door via a mail van. Everything packaged quite well but was worried all the sellotape around had stuck to the images--but it hadnt.I ordered 3 black and white images and all 3 were darker than that of my screen, one is a large 12x16 image of my daughter`s face only and its very apparant that the face is much more grey than on my screen. The colour images i ordered were very very close to that on my screen so im over the moon at that part. The print quality and paper quality seems very high and tactile to touch.

I made a big mistake though and when ordering A4 sizes i adjusted the size of the image in CS4 to one side only which meant the other size was a bit out, never thought to much of it until now when a few peoples feet have been cut off a little--so a big mistake on my part. So how do i resize to DSCL sizes and keep the aspect ratio of my original image as when i change in CS4 if i change one size the other changes as well????

Overall im happy with the result i got from using DSCL and will be ordering some more images once i find out how to adjust sizes exactly.:thumbs:

Uncheck the constrain proportions box in the resize dialogue.

You'll end up changing the proportions of the image though if you don't constrain. That is, a circle won't be a circle. Much better to either print at a different size and cut with a knife/scissors/guillotine or crop to the aspect ratio of the paper being printed on. People look weird if they are distorted (although I know quite a few who would be happy to appear a bit thinner on photos ;))

Really must put in a test order to them to check my colour/b&w balances on screen....

Any other ways .
You can either do an unlocked resize which just distorts the image, or you can crop differently.

You've tried the first and decided you don't like it (not a surprise ;)), now try the second...
