Yes
I noticed when I was at a rally that when you look at my lens you can see little spots which don't wipe off the lens. I've also been reading up about sensor dust and decided to do a dust test.

From my results the dots appear to be large and blurry which to me suggests that the dirt is what I can see inside the lens rather than on the sensor.

Any opinions? Also I need to figure out how I could clean that if it is the case as the S602 lens appears fixed (presumably why you need an adaptor ring to use other lenses and filters).

I will try to take a better test image later tonight as this was a bit of paper beside my desk under poor lighting.

(Thinking about it if i do two tests with different zoom and the size of the dots change would that confirm it's lens based and not sensor based?)

If your lens doesn't come off there's no way for you to clean the sensor, can you see those spots what you look at the glass from the front?

Yes, And now you mention it the fact I can see the spots must mean they are on the lens.. Not really all clued up on how the cameras are built etc but it makes sense the the sensor isn't visible. So the dust appears to be on an inner lens. If I touch the lens with paper I can see about a cm of space between the paper and where the dust is positioned.

Well I don't think you have much choice here, if you're feeling brave you can try taking the lens apart to get at the problem but you could end up breaking it. I doubt it's worth sending it away to be cleaned though you could try ringing Fuji in the uk and asking how much it might cost. I'm guessing the camera is about 4-5 years old now? maybe it's time to save up and buy a new one.

There is the odd speck or two, isnt there.:eek:

I'm one of the best at taking things to bits but not so hot at putting them back together.

At the moment I'll opt for a camera that isn't perfect but isn't really giving me any concerns rather than a camera I definitely know is broken. So far I haven't really noticed any effects on my pictures so I'll plod on.

A new camera will definitely be on my shopping list, for now I'll borrow my dads 400D as required. Going to play with my first raw image tonight I think.
