Well I am starting a little late but never mind......

52 - Week 3 - Learning

IMG_1378-1.jpg

This is a photo of my Primary School. The photo is looking down the pathway into school....Everyone who went to that school began the rest of their schooling life walking down that pathway.

Alot has changed since I was there so I had imagined the photo alot differently.....

Nice idea, welcome to the 52 thing .. Is this a film shot? OR a digi turned B&W.

G'Day and welcome, never too late to join us.

There is something I really like about this, I agree with Gary that without the explaination it doens't work well in the theme. I get the impression of a slight tilt and perhaps a very slightly higher viewpoint could have made the lead-in clearer (difficult to be sure without being there). If you could find a small child (or two with one taller than the other hand in hand) to have walking down the path with a bag or lunch box in their hand then I think that would turn this good image into a great image (and would be much more in fitting with the theme.

However, I do like it; the composition is interesting as the path does lead the eye in nicely to the frame and the B&W conversion is suitable contrasty (too many grey and grey converisons out there IMO), so good start.

What is it about this image that you like and what have you learned from this week's challenge that you think will be useful in weeks to come?

I did have they idea with a young kid and a parent in the back of my mind but trying to organise that is near on impossible at the moment....Its so damn hot down here so had to go and get the shot early in the morning.

Looking back at the pic, I think that I should have lifted the camera a bit higher up. I also think I maybe should have cropped the photo a bit but hopefully next week I can try something new. Being new to this I dont know alot about compisition or anything (I was never the arty type) so I will hopefully learn a bit more about that in the coming weeks with a few pointers from everyone.

Learning is the whole point of the 52 (as well as this week's theme) and if you are new to this you have done a very good job  and I am very much looking forward to your shots later in the year when you do know more about composition and anything, they should really be something to see.

Excellent idea but it does need the explanation is there a sign saying So&So School you could get a view point from?

I thought about getting the sign.....but there are weeds in front of it I will post up one of the pics I got of it.

These two photos were the first two I took when I got to the primary school. I didnt go any further with it because it just didnt feel like it would work using the sign.

All the weeds in front of the sign just put me off.....

I also agree that the explanation makes the image more understandable.

I quite like the last shot you've posted, I know what you mean about the weeds but I like the fact you can see things stuck on the windows which is just like a typical primary school.

I prefer the third one, it's easier to tell what it is (and that's not just cos it has the sign in it :p ) - welcome to joining in though:D

An unusual view and a good take on the theme. Would raising the camera a bit get the edges of the pathway leading the eye towards the entrance?

Week 3 - Surprise.

Sorry its late. Was down at the beach getting nicely tanned.

Anyway here it is. Not happy with this week but my brain just wouldnt get creative. so here it is.

Just caught up with this thread, so welcome .

I prefer the 3rd Learning shot and I think the weeds add a bit of character to the image.

Your Surprise shot has compositional problems for me as you've cut off the end of one of the feet and my eyes are drawn to the view behind the cats. A shallower depth of field would have helped this, but I guess that's why you've joined us. ;)

i see what you mean about the weeds but the windows as said scream primary school

and i have to say your cats certainty look surprised :)

I know they were not co-operating....no surprise there. I just didnt have much time this week. I was at the beach.

Sorry I havent been keeping up. The bushfires that are buring in Australia are burning around where I am. When its over I will try and catch up.
