Yes
OK, following on from The Music Mans thread about music, how about a few of your all time favourites...
I have music for different moods, and several thousand cd's or lp's to choose from, so this is no-way my top 5, but the 5 that fell to hand as a sample of music I would recomend to anyone with open ears, and all from the rock/pop/chill part of my collection....
OK -
Manuel Gottsching - E2-E4 - must be one of the first 'chillout' cd's, recorded in 1981, just one track that is so simple and easy to drift away to - gets played many times !
Frank Zappa - Overnite Sensation - one of his most accessible albums, full of his wit, humour and some fantastic guitar - a little on the rude side (Dinah-Moe Humm - PG for sure) but nothing too extreme or hard to listen to.
Jeff beck - Guitar ******y at its best - some amazing guitar for people who like guitar, but not that super-fast technically wonderful-but-dull stuff - I have been listening to this for over 30 years, and it is still amazing.
Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen - just about the best ever pop album - recectly re-released and re-mastered by Thomas Dolby - enough said - go buy it !
Rod Stewart - Never a dull moment - one of his best, and long before he disappeared up his own... - has one of my all time favourite songs, and one to seek out all other versions ever recored by anyone - 'I would rather go blind' - also features my dad on violin (but not on that track) !
Sadly, nothing new has leapt out at me, but these are pulled from the 'just played' pile, and all come recommended by me !
What have you got to offer ???

(Ooh - better add rachel Yamagata's album - came out about 18 months ago and has some wonderful tracks..)
I may add another few to the list in a few days, but how about you tell me (us ) what you are into...

Just came back as I realised I had used rather fruity language, and was going to edit it out, but it has already been done - my apologies and thanks to whoever edited it out..!
I'll try to behave better next time - promise !

3 listen to tracks from me
*the only ones - Another Girl, Another Planet, both me and my sister love this tune, both through listening to the same punk cd by parents had, amazing song, also has a brilliant guitar bit in the middle, my favourite 'punk' song but whether or not its actually punk im undecided. dont listen to anything else by the only ones, its all ****e though!

*Ben Folds Five - Army, this my friends is piano pop at its best, good, fun, excellently played and with a great brass section in the middle, if you hear (or rather partake) in this song live it is absolutely amazing! ben folds stuff in general is awesome, such a fantastic paino 'abuser'

Dave Matthews - Crash In To Me. I love Daves stuff, hes such a showman and amazing songwriter, fantastic stuff, this is one of his best songs by my reconing

That's some varied tastes you've got there. The first 3 I'm not familiar with so did a bit of googling.
Manuel Göttsching sounded interesting and he certainly was, must have been groundbreaking in stuff in 1981, i was only 2 at the time :)
Struggled to find any stuff from Frank Zappa and Jeff Beck, you tube's not responding at the moment but i'll keep trying.

My tastes are pretty leftfield but hopefully someone might find them interesting:
The Bees - Free The Bees; sounds like it was released years ago but wasn't, actually 2004 (checked itunes to find the year and found they've released a new album......great!)
Amon Tobin - Out From Out Where; Tracks have been used on Top Gear, Electro orchestral madness springs to mind! Try "Searchers"
The Quantic Soul Orchestra - Pushin On; I'm a sucka for all things funky and this is sure funky. Try "End of the road"
Fat Freddy's Drop - Based on a True Story; New Zealand dub band perfect for relaxing to. Try "Ernie", "Cay's Crays" or "Flashback".

Apart fom that listening to a lot of Rolling Stone's, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Fleetwood Mac and Kasabian at the moment.

Smiler... Rod Stewart
Joshua Tree... U2
Walk across the rooftops Blue Nile (favourite at the moment)
Pagan Place.... Waterboys
Avalon... Roxy Music
All Blondie.
Roisan Murphy
Stevie Nicks

The main music I listen to is Northern Soul

Try Porcupine tree...start off with Lazarus :) Great stuff

Might as well throw some Tom Waits in the mix.

Groove Armada - Vertigo
Chris Rea - the road to hell and back
Japan - Oil on Canvas
16 Horsepower - Secret South

Bit like my photographic preferences...varied! :D

Mine at the moment:-

Blondie - Parrallel Lines/Plastic Letters
The Fratellis - Costello Music
Rolling Stones - Forty Licks
The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out
80s Repress - lots of dancy soul stuff

:)

Must be getting old, haven't heard of some of the ones mentioned :(
