Hi, visiting Weymouth next week and would love to visit mupe bay near Lulworth. Not sure about access or the way on foot from Lulworth cove which have visited many times. I know the military use as shooting practice so don't want to be a shooter who gets shot lol. Any help would be appreciated.

had the same problem. First time I did not manage to get there, but now I probably could. You need to follow foot path, usually called range walks. On the weekends they are usually open, you understand they are open because the gates are open :)

You probably need a map of the ranges maybe. I think the closest (were you can leave the car) starts from Tyneham.

You first need to check that the range is open I'm on my phone so can't give you the link but it's open nearly every weekend. The gates usually open at 9am Saturday morning till Monday early.
Best to park at lulworth cove car park if the tide is out you can walk along the beach to the set of steps on the other side or if the tide is in there is a path up over the hill top. Which ever way you then follow the sw coastal path along the cliff edge to the bay. Can't fully remember the location of the path to the beach thou. Have a look on Google earth and you can see the paths. Hope this helps

Thanks both of you for your help. Always wondered where the steps leading from Lulworth cove went. Looking forward now to visiting mupe bay. Just hoping the weather plays ball. Think best to visit at the weekend as you both suggest. Will post results weather permitting. A big thank you to you both.

Here are the opening times for the ranges:

It's quite easy to find once you get walking. You'll need to get to the far side of Lulworth Cove, either via the beach, or over the top (I recommend the beach!), then up the steps and just follow along the coast. You can't miss it when it appears in front of you! :)

Thanks Claire for that info. Looking forward to seeing mupe bay even more now

I am waiting october to go, hoping it won't be too cold, since the sunset will be visible then.
