MY RULES
I am allowing myself 4 Jokers.
I have FOUR Jokers unused.

For Reeshoots:-
I plan to be realistic(!) and not to do to RESHOOTs

New photos will be taken each week specifically for the theme and only 1 photo will be selected as the shot for the week as this forces me to get out there take photos and pick the image I like best. Where possible I will share what I have learned that week and how I might approach it differently next time.
New rule. As long as I have genuinely 'got out there' and tried, then from time to time I can use an existing photo to meet a week's theme.

Hi mike, yes lots of lines there, for me not too sure about the composition, seems a bit lob sided if that makes sense

HI MIke & welcome back...you're right...saturdays are never the same after a year of this madness

Great start , lots of lines & good exposure on the whites (y)....not sure if the darks are a smidge too dark though ?

Thanks Liz and Lynne for comments - I'm not totally happy with the pic myself but I had a window of opportunity of about 3 hours when it wasn't raining this weekend and I had to grab something! (Anything!) Will be at work for the rest of the daylight week.

On theme and you've taken the B&W route as others have done - it paid off.

Crit, well just looks a tad dark lower left.

Cheers.

Really like this - please tell me you used a tripod and it wasn't hand held - so sharp all over

I like the exposure of the image and there are plenty of lines but I have to agree with what was said above about the composition.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I really like the composition.

And the high contrast.

Hi
well done, lots of 'lines' in this. maybe a little dark as others have said.

I would have liked to have seen more of the bridge as in standing further back and as already said, possibly a little dark :)

A little too dark for my tastes and when seen on the Flickr black background the boards at the bottom blend into it.

I used to live in Maidenhead before moving to Cornwall and I believe that is Marlow bridge is it not?

Many thanks all for the comments on my 'Line' shot.
Most seem to focus (ha ha) on the composition and (lack of) brightness.
The brightness was to try and emphasize the white elements - obviously not a great success.
I have posted the original image below to share the challenge I faced with the crop.
Any suggested improvements greatly appreciated!

Hi Mike, good start to your 52, its certainly on theme but I agree with the others re composition and exposure.
My suggestion for a crop would be just to the left of the church spire and just above the top of the stonework on the bridge. This I feel would give an infinity point perspective, drawing the viewers eye in.

Something like the below...??
I have to admit it does look good! - Many thanks for the suggestion Iain.

Thats what I had in mind Mike yes.
Its not too radically different to your original image but I feel that key areas are more on the thirds and it helps with the composition.

Hi Mike seem to have missed you up to now, sorry
crop of the bridge is far better as for play the table tennis pic is a really nice composition, though I would level the net out

I'm going for #2 as well - mainly as there is no way tht running is a form of play ;)

Nice composition and realy well lit - sports halls are so difficult to shoot in I find.

The crop for the bridge a few posts up is a great improvement - the original with the white post and the cropped off spire did indeed present you with a challenge.

I was in Marlow back in the summer - took a shot from the "pavement" on the other side of the bridge. Here if you want to see.

Not really feeling the muddy trainers, but the table tennsi shot is a cracker in terms of movement of the ball, the opponents hand nicely OOF in the top, and the concentration on the guys face... why's he wearing a smart shirt - a nice polo short would have made this a real keeper for me.

I like your second attempt for the play theme.
Thanks Many - I've chosen it as the one
Hi Mike
lines.... lots of lovely lines there
Play... nice active shot :)
Many thanks Judi

Thanks Sarah - was taken in a small room - so even more challenging!
Ha ha! regarding the running comment!

Thanks Graham, Nice shot of the Bridge - I suspect it will appear here again before the year is out! The table tennis shot was at lunch-time at work -so challenging on many levels. It was a small room with a very cluttered background so there was just about only ONE possible place from which to take shots with a clear background.

I like you #2 Play. Good sharp shot capturing the moment well. The addition of the oof hand and bat of the opponent really adds depth to the image. Well done.

I like the bold background of the table tennis photograph. the net isn't quite horizontal but I guess that is at the expense of capturing the ball at the bat face.
