Yes
I was on MSN last night chatting to a friend in Norway when he sent me an attachment foto.ZIP so I opened it to find a nice Virus ready to attack my computer.

I opened it thinking he had sent me something and it instantly attacked my computer and sent its self to every one who was online on my MSN which was about 5 other people who now have the virus.

I have spent all day trying to remove it, from talking to our IT Company with no joy to then calling Symantec on a premium rate call and a one off credit card payment of £69.99 to remove the virus.

A full working day later I think it’s gone.

MSN Virus attachment = 3 hrs IT service charges, 6 hrs Symantec service charges, 1 day wasted salary for me, 1 day wasted productivity for me.

Total cost for MSN foto.zip Virus Approx £3k + unknown knock on effect

N.B be careful

Pete

This is probably similar to the one that went round last week.

interestingly only microsofts onecare found it and killed it.

AVG should have caught that, Have you got AVG installed on your computer, because you can twine it in with msn which will make it scan every single download that someone sends you.

AVG < Click that and it will take you to where you can download AVG for FREE.

If you do consider downloading it, pm me or write back on here and i can guide you though how to bind it with MSN

Before you opened it did you ask what it was? If not then you can blame no-one but yourself. I can't believe how many people, even in this day and age, continue to open unexpected attachments sent to them via email or I.M. Still, hopefully you learned your lesson. ;)

That's no excuse. I don't know if it's because I work as a software developer or what but it's ingrained in my mind to confirm what is being sent to me is legit, even through IM.

Still, at least you learned yer lesson! :bonk:
