Mozthecat - 52 for 2026 - week 2

I really like this one - lots to keep the viewer engaged with the slightly offset sets of straight lines almost implying a spiral.

A striking image. That must have taken some effort to line it up so square. Did you do any geometry corrections in post?

Luckily no corrections were needed on this one as the camera has a fold out screen and so was able to get it lined up nicely with the screen in selfie mode, and then used the 2 second delay to get out of shot.

Great minds as I was also thinking along these lines when I went out with my camera. I just didnt come across the opportunity. Great image that meets the requirements for the week.

I was struggling with the theme and then spotted a pylon in some fields whilst driving and so hunted one down in a local park.

Classic shot there Jon, sky gives a nice contrast in B&W

Week 2 Rust and Decay, taken whilst walking the dog

This was the other option I found on the same walk.

I like your selection there, the second one screams flakey paint to me and vibrant shooting growth

Good subject but the green traffic light is slightly distracting unfortunately.
I like your treatment of the colour in the lamppost

Good shots Jon, I think that you chose the right one for the theme. What is it?

Nicely composed, I think you could add a bit of contrast, for a bit more punch.

A good image that just needed a bit of a lift in processing to make it more striking.

Nice building.

I’d say tha t overall the whole image is underexposed and lacks the punch you might get if you brightened the whole thing up.

As you say, the sky’s bland anyway, so you lose nothing by lightening the whole thing.

If it were me, I’d use any form of editing app to brighten the whole thing and add a load of contrast to keep the blacks black.

I’m away at the moment so did this on my phone - I can’t zoom in enough to really be subtle about the detail. But this approximates what I mean.

On days like that it can pay to pay no heed to the sky and concentrate on your subject, but as Kell says, this is probably something to fix in post (you've saved plenty of detail in the shot).
Whilst in post, I would also do something about the skew of the tower (unless, of course, it's been slighted and thus is really at that angle).

Thanks for the comments, the dark look was a deliberate style choice but I can see the appeal of Kells thoughts and intend to play further.

I did try and correct the vertical, but couldn’t find an angle that looked right so went with a horizontal along the window frame.
