I know, reinstall and start fresh but I need to find a way to move an installation of windows 10 onto a new SSD drive.

Anyone recommend the best method?

Macrium reflect (free version) will clone your existing hard drive contents to the new SSD without fuss

Thanks, so its quick and simple, everything worked fine as if its the old drive?

Dead easy, the software will keep you right.
Time will depend on amount of content being cloned.

I've done countless old mecahnical drives to SSD and never had an issue yet.

I've just tried to do it but it seems to have shrink the new drive to the size of the old one, did I miss something?

What size was your old drive and what size is your new drive?

I think i've figured it, old drive was 200gb split up into multiple partitions but I didnt see that you could change each partition size. Dragged the OS partition as the last one and then extended it out. Its working its magic now so hopefully in an hour it'll work.

Out of interest will all passwords and so on be reset when using the new drive?

Yeah I was going to suggest to check your partitions but glad you sussed it.
If it is a straight clone from one drive to another then all content is migrated including passwords so you shouldn't see any change other than a speed boast if your going from HDD to SSD
