Moving Photos to External HDD (Will it affect LR)

Hi all,

Quick q:

Just copied all of my photos to an external HDD (500gb worth!). I want to now delete them from the HDD that they were on, my internal HDD.

Where LR has been working with my photos from the internal location, what should I do before I go ahead and delete them? Do I need to tell LR somehow that they're in a different location?

What would be the easiest way to do this?

When you move the files Lightroom won't know where they are so you will have to relink them in the LR library module. It's quite easy to do. This link explains it.

The most important thing is to complete a backup before you do anything just in case anything goes wrong.

Just checked through for the last 10 mins and all my photos seem to have transferred properly. I won't delete them until I've set LR up correctly

I've moved images around a few times and found it to be a painless process and easy to delink them. A few months back I split up my storage so this years current images are on an external hard drive and the previous years images archived on the internal hard drive.

That certainly makes sense.

I'm just moving them over to a temporary HDD until I order another one (weekend)

I've only split them so I can edit on both a desktop and laptop by plugging in the external drive.
