hi all my hdd is getting full and i would like to transfer all images to another external hdd but also keep lr edits with them ( i think this means moving the catalog) can someone expla how to do this please.

Catalogue can stay where it is, and is probably best on your local HD for speed. Hopefully it's backed up somewhere as well.
You can have all of your images elsewhere. You can either do all the moving from within Lightroom, which will mean you don't have to do anything else. Or you can move everything using Finder, or whatever within your operating system. Lightroom then won't know where the files are, so you'll get a question mark, or exclamation mark next to the folders and files (depending on what version of Lightroom you're using). The edits and processing are all safely stored in your catalogue though, so all you have to do is click to locate the folder, tell Lightroom where you moved it to, and everything will sync up as though nothing happened.
